 “Testosterone-Free Marketing”
Takes Women Biz Owners by Storm

LAS VEGAS, NV  February 1, 2005:  In a post 9/11, out-sourced world, Americans are starting home-based businesses in record numbers.  Nowhere is that trend more evident than among women.  But are they making headway?  “Testosterone Free Marketing” author Denise Michaels says, “Not at the rate we should be.”

“Women now own 10.6 million businesses in the US and employ more people than the Fortune 500 combined,” says Michaels.  She has coached and consulted over 1,200 people in marketing and claims a huge gender gap.  “If we are different in how we communicate and solve problems, it makes sense that we handle marketing differently, too.  That’s why I wrote my book.  To help women become savvy, confident marketers.

“Feminists have told us the only differences between men and women are physical.  I want to upset the feminist applecart.  It’s not true.  We are strong, smart and different,”  Michaels asserts

“Marketing is not rocket science, says Michaels.  “But people are products of their conditioning and many women wait for customers to call like they waited for the cute boy from history class to call for a date.  Most women are raised to ‘not toot their own horn’ and ‘put everyone else first.’ That’s 180 degrees different from what marketing gurus say is necessary for success.  We are not guerrillas into ‘killing the competition.’  We are women interested in win-win relationships.”

Slated for publication in spring of 2005, Michaels explains, “I wrote the book because women are starting businesses but many avoid marketing.  It almost drives them to chocolate.  I feel their fear in my live teleclasses and workshops.  These are the most important skills for a business owner to possess. If she avoids marketing her business won’t succeed.”

“Women with strong role models growing up can transcend this fear.  These women sometimes choose sales/marketing as a career and many experience excellent success,” Michaels acknowledges.  “However many women entering their own businesses come with great skills, but not in sales and marketing.  They are shocked when they discover how overwhelmed they feel and how a generally outgoing woman suddenly grows silent, when she needs to be anything but quiet.”
